Binance CEO Says Amazon Will Have to Issue Its Own Cryptocurrency

Changpeng Zhao, the head of one of the world’s most popular cryptocurrency exchange, Binance, said that it was not so much a question of if, as of when Amazon will issue its own coin. The observation came as part of a multi-thread discussion on the future of the internet sector on February 2.

“For any internet (non-physical) based business, I don’t understand why anyone would not accept crypto for payments. It is easier, faster and cheaper to integration than traditional payment gateways. Less paperwork. And reaches more diverse demographic and geography,” Zhao tweeted.

He then added that Amazon will have to issue a currency sooner or later, adding fuel to fire to the rumors that the retail giant could start accepting cryptocurrencies.

Zhao’s statement comes the same say as Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter, said that the internet itself will end up using a default currency. He said that Bitcoin appears to be the best choice for such a role.

“It was something that was born on the internet, was developed on the internet, was tested on the internet – it is of the internet,” he said speaking on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast.
